Michael J Davis / chief creative officer
Artist, conceptor, technologist, creative director, cinematographer, writer, student, underdog – yes, underdog. Michael has reveled his entire career in doing things people said couldn’t be done. Now with his team of talented, hungry creatives, Michael leads the agency in delivering creative platforms that crush the limits of mobile, social, broadcast, interactive and retail channels into simple, compelling storytelling.
His work has been rewarded across marketing and advertising competition. He won three ‘Personal Achievement’ Emmy Awards for individual excellence. He’s been recognized at Turin, Cannes and international festivals, receiving critical acclaim for groundbreaking approaches to content.
He’s led the way in building one of the largest digital media channels. And he did it all from the saddle of the same Harley. Because someone did say ‘it can’t be done.’
Michael’s passion for great work begins with insight. It often comes from a piece of art, a narrative or pencils created with a client, just as long as the concept leads to an original idea that drives a new conversation. That’s how stories are created.
Michael’s career began in network television at NBC in the late 1980s, continuing through the ranks of PBS. In 1999, he was a managing founder of an HBO digital media channel that blurred the lines between browser and tube. The social content strategy launched one of the largest out-of-home channels in the U.S. and Europe. Several campaigns created by Michael's team are featured in Motion TVFILM, a hardcover book published by HarperCollins/NYC.
Michael moved in 2002 to Draftfcb Chicago, where he built an emerging media team to help clients take advantage of new marketing channels. As a Creative, Michael led the digital, emerging media, broadcast and creative technology disciplines for the Chicago office. In addition to his role for agencies internally, Michael is a formidable advocate for the media industry. Along with Sir Richard Branson of the Virgin Group, Michael was recognized as the co-keynote speaker for the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) global conference in San Francisco. He is also a contributor to the digital efforts of POPAI, recently gave the keynote address for the Strategy Institute and was a featured panelist for the Digital Marketing summit.
Michael is a graduate of the executive MBA program, Steinbeis University Germany, Berlin School of Creative Leadership. The program founded by the Art Directors Club (ADC Germany) is designed for international professionals whose businesses depend on a constant flow of innovation and inspiration to transform and lead media industries.
